The Power of Testimony

Revelation 12:11 New King James Version (NKJV)

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

There are two key ingredients for overcoming. The one that we all know and press in on is perhaps the most important one. The blood of the lamb. I know I am probably going to be preaching to the choir on this one. In the olden days, under the old covenant, a lamb had to be slaughtered as a sacrifice to purchase one’s redemption. There is a price to be paid for overcoming. This was the same price that was paid for atonement when wrong had been done. Fast forward to the new covenant.

It is hinged on the cross. The son of man was led like a lamb to the slaughter. The bible tells us that he became sin. It is by his blood that we overcome. So we know we have freely been given the first ingredient of overcoming.

The second one is one that we can play a more active role in. The word of our testimony is an incredibly powerful ingredient in this recipe. Words that come out of the overcomer complete the process of overcoming. There are many benefits to testimony. I know it is often put in an unflattering light by the way that it is often conducted in our churches. That is a sermon for another day.

What does a testimony do? Testimony provides verification of that which has already been done. Let that one simmer for a moment. It has already been done, so you are talking about it. I have picked 3 key elements in this. These are the ones who are directly impacted by testimony.

When you testify, it adds to the benefit that you have already received through what you are now describing. Testimony is a form of affirmation of what has been done. It serves as a reminder of who God is and what he can do. Won’t he do it again? Your testimony becomes a direct response to this question. The part that says “again” is the key. He has done it once, so your faith is strengthened in this. We know the scripture tells us that faith is a direct result of the hearing.

Romans 10:17 New King James Version (NKJV)

17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

You hear the word, it impacts your faith. When you speak out and testify, you hear what God can and has done, which also strengthens your faith. We all have valleys of shadows of death that we will walkthrough. These are where we will desperately need a reminder of just how great our God is. It is easy to remember this when things are good. When we endure prolonged periods of trial, the enemy begins to knock at our faith.

Testimony spans beyond just us. Those who hear us are also impacted by what they hear. You see, what you have just pulled through is what someone else may be currently going through. This is what the Bible does for us. It is packed with people’s ups and downs. Does it not inspire you to see how low Joseph went, and just how high God was able to pull him back up? Your testimony will serve as a much-needed light for someone about to throw in the towel and give up.

Their faith, just like yours comes by hearing. I have heard and seen people go through far worse situations than any that I have ever endured. Those same people have been carried through those unbelievably difficult times by God’s grace. No matter how dark things may seem for me, I am always reminded of this. It carries me forward. I have screenshots of testimonies that people have sent through. These also mean the world to me, and to the rest of our team. Their stories will echo in time, and continue to inspire others to hold on.

The Enemy

Genesis 18:14 New King James Version (NKJV)

14 Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Jeremiah 32:27 New King James Version (NKJV)

27 “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?

Your testimony is a declaration of your victory beyond a reasonable doubt. It nullifies the power of the enemy. You are telling everyone what he had done to you, and how God has carried you out of it. His hold on you, and on those who here is nullified. God’s power is magnified in your eyes and those of others. This builds that faith and pushes us to dare to reach even further. It dares us to stretch our faith even further. Is there anything too hard for the Lord? Your testimony is the evidence or the answer that you need.
